Claude AI

Claude Code
- What it is: A command line tool that runs Claude as an autonomous coding agent directly inside your terminal.
- Where to use: Building or debugging features across multiple files. Refactoring legacy codebases at scale. Writing and running tests while fixing failures automatically.
- Pros: Autonomous execution with deep understanding of full codebases.
- Cons: Requires careful review and usage costs apply.
- Best for: Developers who want AI to handle real engineering work end to end.

Claude Cowork
- What it is: A desktop application for non developers that automates file management and repetitive workflows.
- Where to use: Organising, renaming, and sorting files in bulk. Extracting data from PDFs into spreadsheets. Automating repetitive copy and paste workflows across applications.
- Pros: No coding required and supports cross application workflows.
- Cons: Still in early stage with limited configuration and control.
Put simply, Claude Code combined with Claude Chat results in Cowork, with additional guardrails to protect privacy.
